Opinion: 'The Battle for Our Seas'

Marine ecosystems are renowned for their abundant and seemingly endless resources.  However, despite the long-term importance of these ecosystems in protecting shorelines, controlling climate, being the basis of a strong marine industry and providing food and inspiration, the Australian Commonwealth waters are in crisis.  This situation is particularly clear when one examines fisheries management regimes and more recently the bio-regional planning processes currently underway aimed at protecting these ecosystems.

From BIAQ to Marine Queensland

In 2006, the industry recognised the need for the development of a peak organisation to represent Queensland's leisure marine industry and to provide a united and representative voice to government, the industry and community that matched the strength and contribution of the industry.

Marine Queensland was subsequently formed as the peak private sector and independent organisation to represent Queensland's leisure marine industry. 

The Importance of Industry Associations

One of the most frequently asked questions with regards to Marine Queensland membership is 'What does the association do for me?'.

The answer, quite frankly, depends on you.

What do you want out of the association?

What you get out of the association is directly proportional to what you put in.  The greatest benefit of any Association is the networking and comarderie that takes place between members.  But to gain from this you must participate...an investment of time and effort into Association activities.
